The award was given by Jesse James and Garage Magazine for the Bullet Falcon, built by Ian Barry and Amaryllis Knight of Falcon Motorcycles, for skateboarder and actor Jason Lee. specializes in building fully customized, one-of-a-kind, vintage English Motocycles. Each build starts out as British Iron from the 50's or 60's. Whether it be a frame, an engine, or a complete stock motorcycle from that era, they all begin as neglected relics that are then reclaimed, and over the course of a few months, are dramatically and distinctively transformed into a Falcon Motorcycle. Every bike is built from the ground up. It is first disassembled and stripped down to the last nut, washer, and bearing. Then it is completely re-designed and put back together piece by piece, over an 800+ hour-long fabrication process. Performance upgrades, and modern electronics are used, but only when there is no compromise to the aesthetic or longevity of the motorcycle. No expense is spared in the rebuilding of the engines, they are reconditioned, re-machined and every replaceable part is refitted with a new one, in order to ensure reliability in an engine with engineering that can date back more than 50 years. Throughout every phase of the bike build, Ian Barry gives his undivided attention, discarding all superfluous pieces, whilst hand making each of the one-of-a-kind parts, that distinguish Falcon Motorcycles from the predictable pack, of bolt-on, bolted together, swap meet catastrophes. Each motorcycle stands apart in its balance of parts and pieces finely detailed in brass, stainless, and raw steel, the symmetry of asymmetrical lines, and it’s smallest details, down to the hand-machined bolts. These are machines rooted in the philosophy of pure form and function, where gaudy over engineered or overindulgent cultural trends of the minute are firmly discarded. Polished metal not chrome. Museum quality paint that belongs on the streets not cooped up, or manicured with a diaper. Tough, without black primer and gothic skulls. Edgy, fast, unaffected. Falcon Motorcycles is a husband and wife operation, but the building of the bikes is a one-man show. Each piece that Ian Barry machines, rivets, stretches, shrinks, rolls, shaves and hammers into shape, is custom created for the individual owner of the bike. The British engine specialists, leather-smiths and painters hired to contribute to a build, are all experts in their fields, chosen for their lifetime dedication to their craft.
